Are you black tailed buffs, buff columbian? Are they buff hackled and free of black striping in hackle and saddle? Blk tailed buffs are on wheaton like buffs. You should be able to get clear buffs with lots of selection and numbers, but it is not easy. You can also try mating them both ways to a Buff Breed like Buff Rocks, then select back to Leghorn traits and backcrosses to the Blk.tailed Buffs. You would save time locating Buff Leghorns rather than re-inventing the wheel. However as a last resort and time these other methods will work. You might be able to use a largefowl Buff Leghorn male onto bantam blk.tailed buff leghorn females, then select the smaller buffs. Much depends on what you have available to work with.I agree it is sad to let stock disappear. Then they have to be remade again and that is not easy.

i dont know anyone who has large buffs but there was a man advertising on practical poultry who had large buffs near Edinburgh, but i dont know if he still has them. And if i nt find any pure buffs i will carry on trying to breed them. Or i will just breed blk taled buffs and show them. My dads friend from peebles said i should cross them with white bantams. Is this a good idea ? thanks for the advice Dan !

I would only use White Leghorns as a last resort. It is a long process that requires some good buff colored birds in order to work, since that is your big issue right now,I would not think it wise.
