I have recently had the opportunity to come face to face with some silver Dorkings. I was struck as to how very alike these are to my Silver Duckwing Legbars. There were obvious differences - they are slightly larger, have five toes and their legs are more silver than yellow, but their marking are otherwise very much the same. I was wondering how this had come about. I know from Wikipaedia that they are a very old breed -eminating from the Roman times. Were any of these used in the 'development' of Silver duckwing legbars?

YES SILVER DORKINGS WERE USED IN THE SILVER D/W TO GIVE THEM SOME SIZE BUT LEFT THEM WITH SHORT LEGS THATS WHY WE HAVE PROGRAM ON THE GO TO TRY AND IMPROVE THE BIRDS TYPE AND SIZE

Thanks for that. You have confirmed my suspicions. I too am interested in improving the strain - and making these wonderful birds more widely available, so I would be very interested to have any ionformation on the programme you mention.

iTHINK I WOULD LEAVE USING LEGBARS OR WHITES AS IF YOU USE WHITES ALL THE YOUNG WILL BE OF A WHITE BACKGROUND I HAVE DONE THIS AND AM ON MY SECOND YEAR IT WILL BE NEXT YEAR BEFORE I WILL HAVE BETTER RESULTS (I HOPE) BUT I DO HAVE SOME COCKS THAT ARE LOOKING PROMISING YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO HAVE ONE OF THOSE, WITH A BROWN YOU WILL GET BROWN COLOURED FEMALES AND POOR SILVER COCKS YOU WOULD THEN USE THE FEMALES TO BREED BACK WITH YOUR PURE SILVER COCKS THIS WILL GIVE EXCELLENT SILVER FEMALES.
