haven been given 4 hens for my birthday last year have got quite keen on my girls thought the hens as chicks were the ugliest chicks id ever seen. they were 2 leghorns and 2 black pekins the friend were the birds were from one day duly arrived with a handsome looking leghorn cockerel saying sorry he wasn't earlier but had taken to roosting at the top of a tree for the last 3 months and naughty to catch !!! the pekins went broody together wanted to share the nest between them the leghorns would pus the pekins off lay their eggs and then go back out to forage in the garden the pekins have reared 6 between them 4 leghorns and 2 crosses. Ive read somewhere you have to put a gold in to keep the silverduck wings colour correct can any one enlighten me as to how to go about it very new to keeping chickens. but have shown exhibition rabbits for more than 30 years

First thing first you have not said weather they are large or bantam leghorn or are they cross`s ?if they are pure Silversi should not worry to much about putting any golds to them as you will be very lucky if you find one, you best bet is to use a brown cock over the Silver hens this will give you all duckwing pullets and poor gold looking cocks, you would need to get rid of them , and use a pure Silver cock back on the silver pullets this will give you all duckwings, then you could mate brother and sister to hold your strain. if you could take some pict; of them and send them on it would be a big help.REGARDS Keith
